
Girl groups 2NE1 and SNSD are receiving worldwide attention.
The two groups, who are leaders in K-pop’s Korean Wave thanks to their unique performances and refined music this year, have been favorably noticed by famous foreign magazines. SPIN, a popular music magazine in the United States, announced their 20 Best Pop Album of 2011 on December 22 (local time) and the two groups were listed.
According to the chart, 2NE1′s second mini album ranked sixth and proved that they are equal to other famous worldwide singers. 2NE1 is followed by Coldplay, Rihanna, and Kelly Clarkson.
Lady GaGa’s Born This Way ranked first, Beyonce’s 4 ranked second, Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale ranked third. 2NE1 is the only Asian singer who entered the top 10 list.
SPIN introduced 2NE1′s album, saying it is, “A collision of electro-house, hip-hop, and pop-rock guitar. It is the primary work of producer Teddy Park, former member of Korean-American rap group 1TYM.
This is not the first time 2NE1 has been praised by famous foreign music shows or magazines. They were voted ‘the Best New Band’ by MTV and appeared on BBC News. Their song, “I Am The Best” entered the SLANT’s “25 Best Singles of 2011″ list.SNSD ranked 18th in SPIN’s chart. They released the English version of “The Boys” in the United States and received a lot of attention without any official promotions.
Since the two girl groups, who represent K-pop, have received worldwide attention, they are gainingmomentum for their next step to the world. 2NE1 has been working with international producer Will.I.Am to debut in the United States.
SNSD doesn’t have any current plans to promote themselves in the States. They will keep busy with their song “Mr. Taxi” until the end of this year. They will also appear on Japanese NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen and several Korean awards ceremonies.
