JYJ’s Jun Su built a school in a remote area of Cambodia at his own expense.

On December 30, C-jes Entertainment announced that ADRA Korea, an International aid agency, held a building completion ceremony along with a opening ceremony of a school sponsored by Jun Su in Pursat Billabong, Cambodia. After five months of construction work, a school with six classrooms, a special activities room, restrooms, and fountains has been built with the support from Jun Su.

The opening ceremony was held in a school ground with about 500 students, parents, and village people attending. The students and the village people celebrated the opening by waving Taegeukgi and the national flag of Cambodia.

The first grade students performed a song and a cute dance that they had practiced for guests from Korea and expressed their appreciation. An administrator also expressed the village people’s appreciation by presenting appreciation plaque to Jun Su.

Yoon Young Mi, Jun Su’s mother who attended the ceremony, said, “I hope all students who study here can keep everlasting innocence and move forward to their dreams and future. I hope everyone become the ones who can lead Cambodia and the future of the world.”

Jun Su couldn’t attend the ceremony because of his busy schedule for his new musical Elisabeth. Instead, he said in writing, “If I ever get a chance to visit you, I want to sing a song and play soccer with you.”

Billabong is a remote place in Cambodia where total 337 households and 1500 people live. From Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, it takes about three hours by car to get to the place. It is one of the enomonically and sanitarily poorest areas in Cambodia, one of the poorest countries in the world where so many children have lost their life because of malaria.

Jun Su’s mother, who visited this place last year as a volunteer, asked the village people, “What is the facility most in need?” and people said, “A school,” without any hesitation. Jun Su heard the news and decided to build a school at his own expense as he was moved by the people who wished to build a school for their children’s future.

In this school, about 200 children are already taking elementary courses. Among them, there are also some people who start studying late because of their family reasons. About 100 more students in the neighborhood will also enter the school soon.

Jun Su has been donating to ADRA since 2008. With the donation, ADRA has built many houses in overseas countries and Korea. Total eight needy households, including disabled people, senior citizens who live alone, and multicultural families who live in Chungcheongnam-do, Gyeonggi-do, and Gyeongsangbuk-do, could have places to live by ADRA.
