BIG BANG’S HELP BOOST SALES IN MYUNGDONG AND MORE

K-pop boy band Big Bang held a sold-out 10th anniversary concert on Saturday at Seoul World Cup Stadium in northwestern Seoul.
YG Entertainment, which manages Big Bang, issued an additional 5,000 tickets after the initial 60,000 were all snapped up in advance, but those, too, sold out fast.
The concert was streamed live online in both Korea and China, and Mandarin-speaking guides outside the venue were at hand to assist Chinese fans, who came in droves.
Merchandise sold like hot cakes, and the total takings are estimated at W10 billion (US$1=W1,118). The five-member boy band entertained their fans for around three hours.
The Chinese fans also gave a boost to stores and duty free shops in Seoul’s shopping district of Myeong-dong.
Shinsegae Duty Free said sales reached W1.6 billion on Saturday alone, the highest since the store opened in May. Daily sales totaled W1.3 billion to W1.4 billion during last Wednesday to Friday.
And YG Entertainment’s stores saw sales rise five-fold with its own Moonshot cosmetics and Nonagon clothing brand. Hundreds of customers lined up in front of a street stall selling a perfume endorsed by Big Bang member G-Dragon.
Samsung’s ready-to-wear brand 8 Seconds, which uses G-Dragon as its model as well as collaborator, saw sales in its Myeong-dong shop total W200 million on Friday alone, 10 times higher than usual.
The shop passed out coffee and doughnuts to foreign customers. “It was one of the longest lines we’ve ever seen,” one staffer said.
