The sales of SNSD’s album recorded the highest among other K-pop albums in Japan.
According to what the Tower Records, one of Japan’s biggest record shops, reported on December 5, SNSD’sGirl’s Generation ranked no.1 in sales among K-pop albums in 2011.
Super Junior’s Mr. Simple is placed on the second while Kara’s Girl’s Talk, SNSD’s The Boys, and JYJ’s In Heaven followed the rankings.
Among the sales of K-pop singles, SHINee’s debut single Replay ranked at the top of the list. 2PM’s I’m Your Man and Ultra Lover ranked second and third of the same chart.
Tower Records says, “This year, SNSD has given amazing performances in Korea, Japan, and throughout the world, confirming its popularity. SNSD’s high-quality work pieces which are improved by its global activities are all ranked high in the chart.”
Moreover, TVXQ, the group which has shown off a “traditional” popularity in Japan, released the fifth albumTone in September. The album is ranked 13th on the overall chart of sales in 2011 which included Japanese singers as well. It is known that TVXQ is the only Korean group that ranked on top 20 in the chart. Tone is sold over 200,000 copies in the first week of the release, ranking at the top of both Oricon Daily and Weekly charts.
Besides K-pop, Tower Records revealed the sales record of the albums in the field of Western music, Japanese music, classic, and jazz. However, it did not announce the specific numbers of the sales.
