The movie Sector 7, which was released on December 6 in China, made over 20,190,000 yuan, after only one week.
This is the highest record among Korean movies, which have been released in China. 200 Pound Beauty made 16,000,000 yuan and The Host made 14,200,000 yuan.
Right after the release, Sector 7 ranked second in the Chinese box office. The movie is showing at over 4,000 screens. Korean Wave stars, including Ha Ji Won and Oh Ji Ho appeared in the movie and the movie is ranked the first 3-D blockbuster in Asia.
Ha attended several press conferences and visited theaters to meet the movie fans in Beijing and Shanghai prior to the movie release. Chinese media outlets say, “The beauty and the monster have combined to draw great attention from the movie fans.”
Popular Chinese singer Wei Chen helped promote the movie by singing the theme song, “Run Away” for the movie.
An official for CJ E & M says, “The movie was not very popular in Korea but since it’s the first Asian 3-D movie, it is receiving a lot of attention. The actors have also promoted the movie through Weibo.”
“Ha’s TV series Secret Garden is very popular in China and Ha raised her popularity as well. That also helped the movie succeed.”
