BigBang’s leader G-Dragon’s new song MichiGo has finally been unveiled.
April 1 was the day when G-Dragon’s new song MichiGo was revealed to the world on a global mobile messenger service LINE. This messaging service is used world-wide, with 130 million users across 230 countries. G-Dragon’s new song was first revealed in Korea, Japan and Thailand on April 1, and will soon be available for his international fans all around the world.
MichiGo was first unveiled to the fans at G-Dragon’s first world tour concert ONE OF A KIND in Seoul on March 30 and 31, at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena. This song, like the title MichiGo (the original form, michida, means ‘go crazy’ in Korean) suggests, has a hip hop beat that will make his fans ‘go crazy’. This song is G-Dragon’s pet project.
The revelation of his song on LINE, the global mobile messaging service, instead of a music site, seemed like a shocking approach to many. To listen to the song, first, go on LINE and purchase a sticker called G-Dragon SPECIAL EDITION, and then enter the downloaded sticker on G-Dragon’s official account – and there you have MichiGo. This is a whole new concept for many music listeners, which is designed specifically for mobile phones.
How to release his new song to the entire public, apart from his fans, was one of G-Dragon’s and YG’s (the entertainment agency to which he belongs) greatest concerns. In line with the changing trends in the music industry, the artist and the agency came up with a completely new medium to disclose the long-awaited song.
YG Entertainment commented, “as the number of smart phone users soar, a new market focused on mobile phone community is emerging. MichiGo’s revelation on the messenger service LINE is a new distribution method that is suitable for such trend. LINE can also help promote G-Dragon’s overseas activities as it has 130 million users and the number is increasing continuously. It is great timing because G-Dragon is in the middle of his world tour concert.”
G-Dragon’s solo concert in Seoul was a huge success, and now he is moving on to Japan to perform in the four largest stadiums from April 6 to June 2. In August, his solo debut album will be released in Japan as well.
