BIG BANG WHO “DOMINATED THE YEAR 2015”… WILL THEY DOMINATE MAMA, TOO?

Group BIG BANG is going to Hong Kong.

On November 18, CJ E&M said, “BIG BANG will attend ‘2015 MAMA’ (Mnet Asian Music Awards), to present fancy performances.”

Whether BI GBANG will attend this year’s MAMA or not has been a hot issues. Last month, a news report that attendance of artists of YG Entertainment, BIG BANG’s label, at this year’s MAMA was not confirmed was released. Such speculation was caused by MAMA’s response at that time which went, “We’re still establishing plans. We’ll do our best to present best performances with artists who have stood out for this year”.

Then, the first lineup of artists to perform at MAMA including CLBLUE, BTS, GOT7, and Zion.T was unveiled. As BIG BANG was not included in that first lineup, fans’ concerns grew bigger. Since most people in the music scene thought that the year 2015 was the year of BIG BANG both in name and substance, such concerns ran even higher. However, as BIG BANG confirmed their performance at this year’s MAMA recently, MAMA has come to have a richer lineup.

BIG BANG enjoyed an enormous popularity this year from May to August, releasing single album “M”, “A”, “D”, and “E” every month. BIG BANG’s new songs for this year including “BANG BANG BANG”, “LOSER”, “IF YOU” and “SOBER” swept music charts. Such “power of BIG BANG” was proven at the 2015 Melon Music Awards held on the 7 this month. BIG BANG was recognized as the hero of this year’s music scene, by receiving four prizes including the best song of the year award and the best artist of the year award at the music festival with “BANG BANG BANG”.

In addition, BIG BANG saw their global recognition further raised after the successful end of their world tour in Asia and North America. American newspaper New York Times extolled BIG BANG, saying, “The recent tour of BIG BANG proved the fact that America’s absolute influence in the pop market is waning.”

BIG BANG is now standing on the stage of MAMA, to make a pleasant end-of-year holidays season. BIG BANG has good memories of performing at MAMA for several times. In 2012, BIG BANG received the best singer of the year award at MAMA. In 2013, G-Dragon got the best music video of the year, best male singer of the year, best male solo dance performance of the year award, as well as the best singer of the year award which is one of the three grand prizes of the festival. Last year, Taeyang obtained a triple crown at MAMA by receiving the best song of the year award for his solo song “EYES, NOSE, LIPS”, as well as the best male vocal performance of the year award and best male singer of the year award. Music fans are now paying keen attention to whether BIG BANG will become the most shining star in Hong Kong, after proving their big influence by recording mega-hit for every song they released this year.

The seventh MAMA will be held on December 2 this year, at AWE (Asia World-Expo Arena) in Hong Kong.
