2NE1′s “I am the Best” seems to have been plagiarized by Dominican Republic singer Yameiry Infante Honoret also know as “La Materialista” (the materialist).
On the 24th the singer announced the release of a new track with the following message:
Attention #materialista family tomorrow new song national release of my 2013 mega hit and back to the TV media at @DEEXTREMO15. 2:00
During the 25th she shared posts https://twitter.com/LAMATERIALISTA1 using the hashtag #Chipi_Cha_Cha as well as a download link.
When the photo video was finally released k-pop fans were able to notice that the song had the same beat and similar lyrics to 2NE1′s “I am the Best”.
During her live interview she declared that “Chipi” means cheap while Cha Cha comes from muchacha (young girl) and she never mentioned that it was a cover or remake. She also performed the song on the show with a similar choreography and clothes to the original MV.
So far it is unknown if she has the rights to use the track, if it is plagiarized or maybe if she is using it for promotion. We still need to wait for YG’s official statement. This case is so similar to the one MBLAQ suffered a few years ago when the song “Oh Yeah” was copied by an Ecuadorian singer.
