BUILDING ANOTHER COMPANY: YG’S ATTEMPT TO PENETRATE THE CHINESE MARKET


YG Entertainment, to which world stars like Psy and BigBang belong, is planning on building another company within this year to penetrate the Chinese market.
According to South China Morning Post on May 13, YG has gained much confidence from the enormous success of Psy phenomenon and BigBang’s World Tour concert. It is YG’s assessment that profit making is deemed difficult in the Chinese market through digital music downloads and music sales, thus YG is shifting its business focus on holding concerts and events. Last year, YG’s external and internal market proportion was about 50:50, and Japan was the main external market.
