K-pop Star’s Top 6 finalists share their thoughts on Park Ji Min’s latest performance

The Top 6 finalists of SBS‘s ‘K-Pop Star‘ recently gathered for an interview with SBS and expressed their envy towards Park Ji Min. The 16 year-old singer blew the judges away last week, earning a total of 299 points from all three judges.  In case you missed it, SBS recently uploaded all the performance cuts.
Lee Michelle, the oldest out of the Top 6, is known for being close friends with Park Ji Min. Having been together during Supearls, the two grew a special bond throughout their participation on ‘K-Pop Star’. She revealed her thoughts on Park Ji Min’s latest performance saying, “She deserved that high score. I was happy for her and at that moment, I thought to myself, ‘Ji Min really is amazing’. However, as her unnie, I’m worried for her next performance. She’s so young, but receiving such a high score from the judges, her next performance will definitely be a heavy burden on her shoulders. In order to do better than last week, she’ll need to receive a perfect 300 points from the judges.”
Park Jae Hyung commented, “She’s usually just a cute 16 year-old girl with a great personality, but on stage, the way she concentrates on her performance is amazing.” He continued, “Truthfully speaking, I’m very envious of Ji Min’s vocal cords. When Ji Min was suffering from strain on them, she playfully joked saying that she wanted to throw her vocal cords away and that she was willing to trade vocal cords with me. As someone with weak vocal cords, I was merely jealous.”
Meanwhile, Baek Ah Yeon relayed a time how she was once confident in surpassing Park Ji Min stating, “When I sang the song ‘Do You Know‘, I was slightly convinced that I could do better than Ji Min but now, she’s like a mountain that I’ll never be able to cross.”
Rapper and “artist”, Lee Seung Hoon also praised Ji Min by comparing the atmosphere when she received the 299 points to when Korean soccer player, Hong Myung Bo, scored the winning goal against Spain in the 2002 World Cup. “The place was filled with cheers and applause. It was as if the audience had no choice, but to give a standing ovation.”
After hearing the praises from her fellow Top 6 finalists, Park Ji Min revealed her goals for her next live performance. “Rather than receiving a high score, I hope to put on a more spectacular performance. Even if I receive a lower score than last week, my only hope is to be acknowledged by Yang Hyun Suksince I have been casted by YG.”
On the March 25th live broadcast of ‘K-Pop Star’, the Top 6 surviving finalists were divided into three groups, each being sent to one of the three entertainment agencies (SM, YG, or JYP). Viewers are showing an enormous amount of anticipation to tomorrow’s performance as each finalist received special training under some of the top producers over the past week.
