Year after year a new K-pop idol group is born. When that group reaches enough success and recognition sub-units are created in order to give the artists a way of going into a new and fresh direction. According to Korea’s biggest music site, Melon, the top 5 sub-unit groups (in no particular order) are:
1.The sub-unit that surpassed After School, Orange Caramel.
2. Big Bang’s new direction, GD&TOP
Very close friends, G-Dragon and T.O.P from Big Bang debuted the sub-unit GD&TOP on December 24, 2010. This duo was looking to showcase their own personal color and synergy as artists. GD&TOP remained in the Top 10 on the music charts for 7 weeks with their hits, “Oh Yeah” and “High High.”
