Hollywood Reporter is a sister magazine of Billboard magazine which has more than 80 years of history. Hollywood Reporter published a special feature titled “Pop Goes the World” recently, which covered globally-influential pop stars who are not from America, the birthplace of pop. G-DRAGON was introduced in the article, as one of nine pop stars who represent different countries, including Avril Lavigne from Canada, Ellie Goulding from the U.K., and Lorde from New Zealand.
Hollywood Reporter focused on G-DRAGON’s global influence and musical progress. The magazine mentioned Justin Timberlake and Kanye West to say that G-DRAGON’s status in the K-Pop world is comparable to that of those two artists in the Western pop world. It also said G-DRAGON’s influence has gone far beyond Asia. The magazine went on to say G-DRAGON has achieved a great success not only as a member of BIGBANG but also as a solo artist and that G-DRAGON’s 2012 world tour attracted 800,000 people of audience globally.
Plus, Hollywood Reporter cited the case that G-DRAGON’s second full solo album “COUP D’ETAT” entered the top 200 list of Billboard, to compliment his collaboration works with world-class musicians including Diplo, Bauuer, and Missy Elliott.
By the end of the article, Hollywood Reporter expressed its high expectations for G-DRAGON, mentioning the fact that G-DRAGON’s another song produced with Justin Bieber has yet to be disclosed. G-DRAGON said in the interview with the magazine, “The artist whom I want to work with the most is Pharell Williams. He is the only idol for me”, and such a remark drew much attention.
G-DRAGON has been recognized as a huge K-Pop phenomenon by a number of foreign media outlets including American men’s magazine “COMPLEX”, “New York Time” and “FUSE TV”, for the quality of his music and unique style.
Meanwhile, G-DRAGON is standing on the stage of “2014 BIGBANG +α in SEOUL” concert that will be held on the 24 to 26 this month at Olympic Gymnastics Hall located in Seoul.
