K-Pop Review : Hot Boy by Big Star

Like Us on Facebook :
Brave Sound's shiny new boy band, Big Star, made their debut this week with "Hot Boy," joining the long list of idol groups trying to get in on the Hallyu Wave action.
So, lets talk about Brave Sounds newest money makers, and their debut song.

The Song

I really don't know what to categorize this song as. It was a dance song one minute, a pop song another, and a hip hop song the next. When they picked this song perhaps they thought covering multiple genres would get them noticed but it to me it was confusing, and definitely annoying to listen to. I won't even mention that parts of this song sound like just "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO (whoops). Basically this song was a big ol' clusterf*ck.

Music Video

Concept

After reading through the translation of the lyrics I found that this song was them singing to a girl who left them, and now they are showing her they are better off without her.
I didn't get that from the video. AT ALL. The dance off in the street, the burning eyes, the laser eyes, nothing about this video connected to what this song is about.

Originality

I see nothing original about this video, this song, this concept there wasn't a moment where I wasn't thinking "this reminds me of..." I get the sense that this group, and this song was Brave Sound's attempt to create a Block B 2.0 type group, and needless to say they failed big time. There were times they sounded like Boyfriend, and the song's chorus is obviously inspired by LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" (darn I mentioned it again).

Mystery Member

I watch, and re watched, and RE watch this video, and still don't know what mystery boy's (stage name Sunghak) voice sounds like. He has not one solo part in this video, he didn't appear alone, sing alone, or rap alone other than for half a second at the 3:17 mark. WTF? It's their debut how did he not get a part? Am I the only one reminded of the situation with 2pm and Junsu when they debuted?
Jude, the member with the bleach blonde hair, didn't get much attention either but he was definitely not over looked like Sunghak was.

Nip Slips

Oh-My-Goodness! Wind, the one with half a head of braids, was my biggest problem with this MV. He had a nip slip almost every time he was camera. No one needs to see that. Keep it covered.

Wrap Up

Big Star's debut is just adding to my frustration with the overflow of new idol groups. I'm sure I am not the only one who is sick of debut after crappy debut. They don't offer me anything new that I'm not getting from the already well established K-Pop acts. On top of this being a blah song, they didn't even present all their members. What am I supposed to do with that? It's not even like they have 13 members to accommodate for. Are they telling me they couldn't split the parts up for 5 members?
All I can say is I just don't care about this debut. It does nothing for me.
