On June 18, a press preview was held for the documentary movie I Am, starring singers from SM Entertainment, at CGV in Seoul.
The movie is a unique documentary about the ‘SM Town Live World Tour in Madison Square Garden,’ which was held in November in the United States.
The movie portrays 32 singers, including, Kang Ta, BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD, SHINee, and f(x), who performed at the concert in New York. It also includes videos of their debuts, interviews, and when they were trainees.
This already makes the movie special enough. But the movie will play many K-pop hit songs and release old videos of the singers, who probably don’t want to show their appearances before they got plastic surgery.
The movie has two big strong points. First, it surprised the audience by reporting on the singers in detail. It includes material from 4,824 SM recordings and 4,415 Mnet recording, with recording artists from the last 16 years. This proves that one of the biggest entertainment company has underlying strength and accurate mind. They announced that they will release these precious material only in theaters. They’ve already made a lot of money from selling the movie to foreign countries.
The movie says that trying hard is more important than being talented. The reason 32 stars gathered together was to debut as singers. Like there is a saying, ‘If you work hard, thing’ll work out by themselves,’ the singers’ unceasing efforts to achieve success have made them what they are today. Their ideal was realized after many years of endeavor. Even thought effort does not lead directly to success but their consistent effort brought them success and the movie will help other countries to understand K-pop in positive way.
The movie will be released on June 21.
