Girls’ Generation who decorated pop music scene in 2011 has many reasons to celebrate can add another. The group leader Taeyoen was chosen as an MC of a first major award since their debut, ‘1st Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards’ at Blue Square Samsung Card Hall on February 22.
After the award ceremony Taeyeon shared in an interview, “I had a chance to MC for Korea PD award two years ago, however this is a first for a music award. It’s very meaningful for me as a singer to be entrusted of the first MC of a major award.”
Taeyeon was the co-MC with Joo Young Hoon for ‘1st Gaon Chart K-Pop Award’ that lasted for 3 hours from 7PM KST. They showed a very good match as a musician who has extensive knowledge of music together with the most popular idol, this itself was another attraction for the viewers.
In the past Taeyeon has shown her skills of using witty words in being a DJ of MBC Radio “Best Friend.” Recently she was selected as new MC for MBC ‘Show! Music Core’ music program however it’s the first time for such a major award as this. However she was able to display exceptional skills in leading the show as a professional MC and received a good response for her first MC of a major music award.
“More than anything it’s such an honor for me to be selected as the first MC for the first award ceremony. As it’s the first award ceremony the MC would have been important reflecting the image of the award ceremony, I’m thankful for given this opportunity,” said Taeyeon.
The group Taeyeon belongs to, Girls’ Generation has received the award of ‘Artist of the Year’ (fourth quarter album) and ‘Oricon Special Award.’ Girls Generation has set the record number of album sales in the fourth quarter of 2011 with ‘The Boys’ album released last November, earning the ‘Artist of the Year.’ The ‘Oricon Special Award’ was more meaningful as Oricon group chairman Goike Kow presented the award.
“As we travel overseas it seems more people are listening to Girls’ Generation music. That is how we are able to receive this kind of big award. I’m so thankful for the fans all over the world who are listening to Girls’ Generation music. I wish for Girls’ Generation to continuously attend the ‘Gaon Chart’ award ceremony,” shared Taeyeon with a shy smile.
“It’s our dream to attend an overseas award ceremony in the future. I wish for that day to come sooner so that our stage may become wider and we will come to have more diverse people listening to our music,” added Taeyeon.
