April 13, Psy was on stage for his concert dubbed Happening. The music video of his new song ‘Gentleman’ was streamed live on Youtube all across the world. And the reaction of foreign media had a common thread: “Psy is no Gentleman.”
MTV, America’s music program, wrote, “Psy is no Gentleman in the music video. Psy parades through a series of chic restaurants and shops, playing pranks on female companions eager to join his entourage.”
Billboard explained that Psy showed something more than his fan expected, with his appearance as ‘crazy PSY’. And Billboard shared the view with MTV when it said that the K-Pop king is no Gentleman in his music video, Gentleman.
50,000 were there to see Psy at his concert, and 150,000 watched live Youtube streaming.
A British daily newspaper, The Independent also wrote what Psy does in the music video is far from being a Gentleman.
It also added that the phrase “mother-father-gentleman” that is repeated 11 times in the song is actually a code for “mother****ing gentleman.”
The English paper also said that in the later part of the music video, Ga In from Brown Eyed Girls appear to dance with Psy at a pedestrian lane – an explicitly sexual dance using the lamp post.
The Independent said the dance is not as comical as the horse-ride dance in his pervious mega-hit music video, but the dance move of ‘Gentleman’ is actually easier to follow.
Foreign media is excitedly waiting to see if his new music video can trump ‘Gangnam Style,’ Youtube’s record-breaking video that hit 1.5 billion views. Psy’s ‘Gentleman’, at 5.05p.m, already hit 13.8 million views.
