Re-cast of Sungkyunkwan Scandal
This drama is set in Sungkyunkwan University during the Joseon era, revolving around the exploits and love stories of four youths. When her younger brother falls ill, Kim Yoon Hee enters the school in his place disguised as a boy in her desperation to find a way to support him, and becomes friends with Lee Sun Joon, extremely rich and the brains of the gang, playboy Goo Yong Ha and the rebellious Moon Jae Shin.
Micky Yoochun — Lee Min Ho
Lee Sun Joon the main character of Sungkyunkwan Sacandal was played by Micky Yoochun whose looks is of an intelligent and upright guy, his personality is kind and caring for the people who is close to him, also he looks good with traditional clothes giving the drama an special feeling of seen a real character from the Joseon era.
It was hard to think about changing the cast of this drama because I think the cast team did an excellent job at that time, it was a really success. And to fit the image of Lee Sun Joon I could only think of another excellent actor as Lee Min Ho who has showed us his cosmopolitan image from a rich heir (Boys Over Flowers) or a smart and hard worker architect (Personal Taste) and his recent drama City Hunter were he plays as a revengeful hero. Also I would like to see him making a different kind of character and a traditional drama is an excellent option. Plus he does look very handsome with traditional clothes.
Park Min Young – Yoon Eun Hye
As the main girl lead of Sungkyunkwan Sacandal we have the actress Park Min-Young who played as Kim Yoon Hee who after her younger brother illness doesn’t allow him to attend school she decides to do something just a brave and smart girl would or could do, she makes the decision of taking the place of her dong seng under his name, while taking the entrance exam she meets with Lee Sun Joon and after getting into the school she meets two other guys who she gets along and a little more. Even though her good acting is something I can’t deny (she played her role as a guy doing things like archery and tough activities at the school) I think she doesn’t have the look of a guy, her pretty girl-like face and short body is very evident through the outfit, maybe this was on purpose because some of the students fell for her even though she was supposed to be a guy.
Talking about a beautiful tomboy girl we can say Yoon Eun Hye has showed us that she has what is need to play a role like that on The first shop of coffee prince were she amazed us how well she played as a boy when she can also be so very feminine as we refer to her on Goong and Take care of the young lady. With the experience about traditional language and manners (Goong) and with the experience about playing a boys role, Yoo Eun Hye has what is needed to take this role and make an excellent acting as always.
Yoo Ah In – Jung Il Woo
Moon Jae-Sin is a guy with troubles at Sungkyunkwan. As an impulsive person, Moon Jae-Sin tends to act before thinking. He hates his father who is a politician and his opportunistic ways. He comes to Sungkyunwan to get even with his dad. Moon Jae-Sin also discovers Kim Yun-Hee’s secret. He attempts to protect her, while falling for her more than he would.
When I thought about Lee Min Ho as the main character, an idea came to my main it was to put the 3 handsome best friends (Lee Min Ho, Jung Il Woo and Kim Sang Bum) into a same drama, as they always have said they share a good relationship it would be interesting to watch them fight over a tomboyish girl in a traditional drama. Also Il Woo has some experience at acting into a traditional drama (Return of Ijimae) and he can act as a rebellious or caring guy when we are talking about the girl he likes (49 days), plus he looks handsome in traditional clothes.
Song Joong Ki – Kim Sang Bum
At Sungkyunkwan University, Ku Yong-Ha is a pretty boy good at singing, drinking, and also popular with the ladies (player). He discovers that Kim Yun-Hee is a woman. And so, for fun, he does not reveal her secret and observes her through the school. Soon enough, he starts to develop feelings for Kim Yun-Hee.
Talking about a good looking and playboy look guy we can say Kim Sang Bum has experience in his role on Boys Over Flowers were he played as a rich talented ceramic sculptor maker playboy, he can fit perfectly the role of Ku Young Ha and by being good friends with the other actor (Il Woo and Min Ho) the three of them can make the drama have an special feeling of friendship and rivalry. Plus his good looks make him look good into any kind of custom including traditional ones.
