On April 12, Psy released his new song in 119 countries, and the music video was first shown in public at his solo concert, titled Happening, on the 13th and uploaded on YouTube at 9:00 p.m. the same day.
The video recorded lots of hits right after the upload: it broke the world record on YouTube by getting 18 million hits during the first day, 20 million in 25 hours, 30 millions in 31 hours, and is about to hit 40 million after 35 hours since its release.
Right after the release of the music video, the song swept all domestic music charts and is receiving a lot of attention from iTunes charts in many countries. It ranked at the top in 16 countries including the Azerbaijani Republic, Belgium, Brunei, Cambodia, Czech Republic, Finland, Hong Kong, Macao, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, UAE, and Vietnam. It ranked second in Indonesia, Mexico, Sweden, Thailand, and Turkey, and it ranked third in Argentina, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Luxembourg, Russia, and Switzerland.
Interest is on whether the song and video will exceed “Gangnam Style” in hits. “Gangnam Style” currently holds the world record in hits for a single video segment, having been watched more than 1.5 billion times.
